History in Hesperia

Who is Mike  Mayo?

Mike Mayo has lived in the high desert for over 25 years, attending public schools in Victorville, but he has lived in Hesperia for about 12 years, nine years in his current residence of HUSD's Area 4.

Mayo is an English teacher with over 15 years of experience with Victor Valley Union High School District. Before that, he was an AVID tutor and then a substitute, understanding how significant educators and other staff are for students. Success for schools means that the district supports staff with resources to help students be successful.

Mayo has four children currently attending HUSD schools and believes students are more successful when they communicate well with teachers and counselors. Furthermore, he is aware that the communication between parents, teachers, and administrators should focus on the success of the students academically, socially, and physically.

Mayo graduated from California State University of San Bernardino with a B.A. in English Literature in 2004 and will complete his M.A. in English Composition at the end of Fall 2020.

While teaching, Mayo has served as an association site representative for 13 years and an association negotiator for 11 years (four years as the lead negotiator). He was also elected to the School Site Council and nominated as the secretary for two terms. For eight years Mayo was the head coach of cross country teams and assistant coach of track and field teams.
